Blacktail // Developed by The Parasight
Writing // (5/5) Based on Slavic folklore, the story rich & lore-laden experience is very immersing! I'm a sucker for any tales involving mages, magic, and mythology. (I'll never spoil the story in this review thread - sorry, not sorry).
Combat // (4/5) The archery combat was fun, but it could *feel* smoother. Personally, I felt myself wanting a more visually pleasing movement of the shooting animation.
Mechanics / Balance // (5/5) Balance in game mechanics once you level up the skill tree feels challenging but satisfying- gathering materials to survive, crafting arrows & potions necessary for combat & exploration, etc.
Art Style // (5/5) Blacktail has a variety of game world designs, environments, and even core game level design changes, all the while maintaining a fluid aesthetic that plays to the players' experience. I absolutely adore the dark but cozy art style with its firm nod to a typical children's book art style.
Overall, this is an adorable and strikingly unique indie game I would 10/10 would recommend.
NOTE: Save often - the game is based in survival by gathering health and finding new / traveling to "Shrines" or save points.
